Bengaluru, Nov 8 The BJP will stage a day-long protest at Freedom Park here on November 11, opposing the Congress government’s price hike and demanding its withdrawal, the party’s state president B Y Vijayendra said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said all BJP MLAs, MPs, MLCs, former elected representatives, those who contested elections and state office-bearers would participate in the protest scheduled from 10 am to 6 pm.

“Condemning the Congress government’s irrational price hike and demanding that the decision be withdrawn, the BJP will stage a protest at Freedom Park on Wednesday, November 11, from 10 am to 6 pm,” the BJP state chief said.

The Congress government has burdened the poor and the common people with these price hikes. The government must review and withdraw it, Vijayendra said.

He accused Chief Minister D K Shivakumar of imposing an additional burden on people during Deepavali through dairy products and a bus fare hike in the state.

He said the party would intensify its agitation after the Freedom Park protest by holding marches in front of all district headquarters and staging demonstrations in every Assembly constituency against the government’s decision.

“There is no question of us remaining silent under any circumstances. I want to warn Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. Instead of imposing such a burden on the people, the government should withdraw the decision,” he said.

Vijayendra also accused the state government of depending on corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds for governance and development, citing the chief minister’s appeal to private companies to adopt at least 2,000 government schools.

“When the chief minister says that 2,000 schools should be adopted by private companies, he has openly admitted that the government does not have the money to spend even on the education sector,” he said.

Claiming that ministers were depending on CSR funds for the development of their constituencies, he alleged that Karnataka was facing an “economic emergency”.

He said the BJP had no objection to the state government bearing the expenditure on benefits extended to farmers, as it was its responsibility.
