Panaji, Nov 8 Newly inducted Goa minister Sankalp Amonkar has been allotted the portfolios of Agriculture, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and Handicrafts, Textiles and Coir, an official order said on Sunday.

Amonkar was inducted into the cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday, filling the berth that had remained vacant since the death of former agriculture minister Ravi Naik on October 15, 2025.

Naik (79), a veteran politician and former chief minister, held the Agriculture and Civil Supplies portfolios at the time.

Since Naik’s death, the Sawant-led government had been functioning with 11 ministers against the sanctioned strength of 12.

The induction of Amonkar, who represents the Mormugao Assembly constituency in South Goa, marked the filling of the cabinet vacancy ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.

Amonkar had contested the 2022 assembly elections on a Congress ticket and defeated three-time BJP MLA Milind Naik from Mormugao by a margin of 1,941 votes. He joined the BJP along with seven other Congress MLAs in September 2022.

Before joining the saffron party, Amonkar had served as the vice-president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and held positions in the party’s youth wing.

After joining the BJP, he was appointed chairman of the Goa Sewage and Infrastructural Development Corporation.
