Hyderabad, Nov 7 Telangana’s anti-narcotics unit–EAGLE Force on Saturday said it has arrested a 51-year-old woman here, who is allegedly involved in an extensive ganja trafficking network operating since 2017.

For the last two years, K Nithu Bai, who is involved in about 13 cases, has been absconding and evading her arrest by not staying at her house in Nanakramguda and continuously shifting her base between Nanakramguda, Gachibowli and Langerhouz, a release from Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) Force said.

“Due to continuous efforts, Eagle Force could apprehend her on November 6,” it said. She was later remanded to judicial custody.

According to the investigation, she had been engaged in procuring ganja in bulk quantities from suppliers, preparing smaller packets and selling them to consumers in and around Nanakramguda. The area, which has a substantial population of software professionals and students residing in rented accommodation, was allegedly used as a major consumer market for the illicit trade, the Eagle Force officials said.

“Investigation revealed that approximately 30 cases under the NDPS Act and the Prohibition and Excise Act had been registered against her and members of her family between 2017 and 2026 at various police stations and Excise units, including Cyberabad Narcotics Police Station. She was absconding in 13 of these cases,” they said.

Despite being arrested and remanded to judicial custody on several occasions, she allegedly continued her illegal ganja business after securing bail, they said.

Officials said that, as the accused was absconding in 13 cases, she had allegedly been frequently changing her locations to evade police surveillance.

“Despite avoiding the use of a mobile phone while continuing her alleged ganja trafficking activities, the Technical Team of Telangana EAGLE Force maintained sustained surveillance and closely monitored her movements through technical intelligence and field inputs and successfully tracked down and apprehended her while she was travelling towards Mangalhat in an autorickshaw,” they said.

During her apprehension, police seized Rs 1.59 lakh in cash and one mobile from her possession.

Police investigation indicates that the network had been operating for several years, with family members allegedly assisting in different aspects of the drug trade.

The investigation has also brought to light assets allegedly acquired through the proceeds of ganja trafficking, which include two

four-storey buildings at Langerhouz, a three-storey building at Gachibowli and additional construction at her residence in Nanakramguda, the release said.

Bank accounts belonging to the accused, certain family members and the family-run kirana and general store were also frozen during earlier investigations, it said.

The police are examining the financial transactions, ownership documents and source of funds to establish the connection between the suspected drug proceeds and the properties and other assets, the release added.
