Kolkata, Nov 5 Police on Thursday recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified man from a luxury car parked in a garage in the city’s Kasba area, an officer said.
The body was found on the driver’s seat of the vehicle after locals alerted the Kasba police station, complaining of a foul smell emanating from the garage, he said.
“Our officers rushed to the spot and, during a thorough search of the premises, they spotted the body inside the parked car, which had remained unused for a long time,” he said.
The officer said that the vehicle had no number plate and was covered with a thick layer of dust, suggesting that it had not been driven for some time.
“The garage gate was also not locked,” he added.
The Homicide Squad of the Kolkata Police’s Detective Department took up the investigation to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding his death, the officer said.
“We have sent the body for post-mortem examination. The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated. We are questioning local residents and examining all possible leads,” he said.
Police are also trying to ascertain how long the body had been inside the vehicle and whether the deceased had any connection with the garage or its owner.
