Gangtok, Nov 5 Sikkim Governor Dushyant Gautam on Thursday reviewed the progress of key welfare schemes and development initiatives at a meeting with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and his Cabinet colleagues.

The high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan provided the newly appointed governor an opportunity to interact with the state leadership and take stock of the government’s priorities, ongoing projects and plans, an official press statement said.

The chief minister introduced the governor to the members of the council of ministers and briefed him on the state’s development priorities, major ongoing projects and plans, the statement said.

The governor sought updates from the ministers on the implementation and progress of various welfare schemes and major initiatives undertaken by the Centre and the state government.

Appreciating several of the programmes, Gautam said their primary objective was to ensure the overall welfare of every citizen of Sikkim, according to the Lok Bhavan statement.

He stressed the need to extend basic facilities to remote areas and promote innovation in key sectors, including education, healthcare, tourism, agriculture and environmental conservation.

The governor expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the state government and the public would help take Sikkim and its people to greater heights of development, the statement added.

In a social media post after the meeting, Tamang described the interaction as an opportunity for meaningful engagement and coordination between Lok Bhavan and the state administration.

“I look forward to continued cooperation and coordination between Lok Bhavan and the state government in the collective interest of the people of Sikkim and the progress and development of our state,” the chief minister said.
