Chennai, Nov 4 TVK President and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday asserted that his political entry was aimed at the welfare of students as well, and he exhorted them to stay away from corruption and drugs and focus on education and scale great heights.

Addressing an event organised to felicitate toppers of the Class 10 and 12 board exams, Vijay said he was attending the function not as a chief minister but as their “elder brother.”

“I am not here to talk politics, ask for votes, or talk about the party. You do not need party politics right now. Study well, achieve big things, and transform your life. After that, you can think about our society and our Tamil Nadu,” he advised the students.

He briefly touched upon his transition into governance. “I entered politics considering your welfare as well; you know that,” he told the students, adding that their parents, society, and the entire state were depending on them.

The chief minister encouraged the youth to develop their individuality and not be deterred by obstacles.

He said: “If people create hurdles on your path, it means your success is already confirmed.”

Urging the younger generation not to become slaves to bad habits, he explicitly asked them to “stay away from corruption and drugs”.

Earlier, students and their families, who had gathered at the venue since early morning, expressed excitement over interacting with Vijay in his new administrative capacity.

Monica, a Class 12 student from Tiruvannamalai who scored 566 marks out of 600, told PTI Videos that receiving the award from him as the chief minister made it a “very special moment” that would serve as a motivation for the next generation.

Srinithi, a Class 10 student from Cuddalore who scored 494 marks out of 500, said receiving the honour from the newly elected CM brought immense pride to her and her school.

Parents at the venue also lauded the safe and well-coordinated arrangements made by the party workers for the travelling students.

The event marked the first phase of the TVK educational awards, where the chief minister personally distributed certificates and financial incentives to meritorious students from the state.
