Gangtok, Nov 4 The BJP’s Sikkim unit on Wednesday took out a march under its nationwide campaign ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’, targeting what it described as growing political intolerance, misinformation and attempts to undermine democratic institutions.
The party also organised a workshop at its state office in Singtam in the presence of Sikkim unit president D R Thapa, office-bearers, executives and workers from across the state, a statement issued by its media cell said.
Addressing the gathering, Thapa said repeated electoral defeats had exposed the Opposition’s inability to win public confidence.
Instead of introspection and constructive engagement, the Congress and its allies were resorting to misleading narratives, political hostility and attempts to create public unrest, he alleged.
Thapa also explained the significance of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying accurate and credible voter lists were essential for strengthening the electoral process.
He urged party workers to counter misinformation with facts, communicate the party’s position responsibly and take the achievements and initiatives of the central government to the people, the statement said.
Emphasising the need to protect democratic institutions, Thapa said democracy was not confined to elections but also depended on respect for constitutional institutions, the rule of law and the people’s mandate.
The workshop was followed by the march under the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign.
Party workers marched from the state office to Singtam Bridge and returned to the office, raising slogans during the rally.
The BJP said the campaign was aimed at promoting political accountability, countering divisive politics and strengthening democratic values.
