Siliguri, Nov 3 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday accused opposition leaders who have assembled in Delhi of conspiring to spread anarchy in India, similar to the situation in Bangladesh, with the help of what he described as “dimagi naxals, jihadis and cockroaches”.

Adhikari, who led a ‘Save democracy, defeat anarchy’ rally here as part of a nationwide BJP campaign to counter the opposition INDIA bloc’s allegations of irregularities in voter list revision, also vowed to develop North Bengal.

Addressing a public meeting at Mahatma Gandhi Chowk after the rally in this North Bengal city, the chief minister alleged that the “politically vanquished” leaders, including the “aunt-nephew duo”, had gone to Delhi seeking the support of anarchists.

“The BJP knows how to deal with those attempting to destabilise the country,” he said, adding that the party would not spare saboteurs.

Challenging the opposition, Adhikari said, “To remain in power, one has to contest elections, and to come to power, one has to win elections. As long as PM Modi is leading the country, none of these opposition parties will ever win an election.”

He accused the opposition parties of aligning with what he called the ‘tukde-tukde gang’, which raises slogans of ‘Bharat ki barbadi’ and ‘Kashmir maange azaadi’.

Adhikari clubbed opposition parties together and offered his own political interpretation of ‘4G’, ‘3G’ and ‘2G’, while contrasting them with what he described as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s single-minded commitment to the country.

“Corrupt Congress and other opposition parties are all 4G, 3G and 2G parties. But our leader Narendra Modi has no ‘G’,” the chief minister said.

Elaborating on his remarks while mocking opposition dynasties, he said, “4G means Chacha Nehru, his daughter Indira, her son Rajiv and his son Rahul. 3G means grandfather Sheikh Abdullah, son Farooq Abdullah and grandson Omar Abdullah or the political bloodline of Karunanidhi, M K Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin.

“And there are plenty of 2G parties, like aunt and nephew, Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav or Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti,” he said.

By aunt and nephew, the CM was alluding to TMC leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee.

Contrasting this with Modi’s leadership, Adhikari said, “Narendra Modi has nothing personal. The country comes first for him. Had Modi ji not been there, the Supreme Court verdict on Ram Mandir could not have been implemented, nor could the temple have been built and the consecration ceremony held in Ayodhya.”

The CM also credited the PM with bringing back the idol of Goddess Annapurna, which was stolen from Varanasi and later found at the Mackenzie Art Gallery at the University of Regina in Canada.

Claiming that the BJP will sweep the Siliguri civic body elections expected in February, Adhikari said, “The results of the Kolkata and Howrah municipal polls would mirror those in Falta, Nandigram and Rejinagar”, where the saffron party have comprehensively won.

Promising accelerated development in North Bengal, he said the government would inaugurate multiple airports in the region before the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, reopen tea gardens, establish higher education institutions, create employment opportunities and facilitate the return of migrant workers.

“We will spare no one who committed crimes against women during the previous regime. This government has shown perpetrators like (TMC leaders) Jahangir Khan and Sheikh Shah Jahan how strict we can be,” Adhikari said in an apparent bid to reach out to women voters in the region.

The CM said the BJP would move to Siliguri after the party’s “victories in Kolkata and Howrah”, promising to clean up “political garbage in the state with bleaching powder and phenyl”.

At the march, Adhikari was accompanied by Union minister Sukanta Majumdar and West Bengal ministers Sankar Ghosh, Dipak Burman, Nisith Adhikari, along with Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and the party’s national vice-president Lal Singh Arya.

Holding the national tricolour, participants in the procession walked from Baghajatin maidan to Airview crossing here.

In Howrah city in the southern part of the state, BJP leader and former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb led a similar rally.

Former BJP MP from Hooghly, Locket Chatterjee, was among those who took part in the procession.
