Chatra, Nov 3 A class 9 student was found hanging at a residential girls’ school in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, with police suspecting suicide, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School within Gidhaur police station limits around 8.30 pm on Monday.

The deceased was a resident of Simratari village in the same police station area.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl died by suicide. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a room of the school on Monday night. No suicide note was recovered. Her body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Chatra, for post-mortem examination,” Simaria SDPO Nagargoje Shubham Bhausaheb said.

Police have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.

The hostel room was not locked from inside when other students spotted her body, the SDPO said.

At the time of the incident, the other students had gone to the mess for dinner, he said.

Circle Officer Anand Shainam Vishwakarma said a thorough investigation was underway and anyone found guilty would face administrative and legal action.

“The reasons behind the girl’s death will become clear once the investigation is complete,” he said.

A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team from Ranchi was called to collect evidence from the spot.
