Mumbai, Oct 28 The World Hindu Congress on Wednesday claimed that a video of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealing to Hindus to attend its upcoming conference in Mumbai was removed from social media and sought the intervention of MeitY to obtain an explanation from Meta.
Suspecting “bias against Hindu causes”, the organisation has sought the intervention of Mumbai Police, Delhi Police and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to obtain an explanation from Meta.
The WHC 2026 organising committee said the video was uploaded on Facebook, Instagram and other platforms on October 26 but was restricted from being viewed in India within hours, with a notification citing legal requirements under the applicable Information Technology Rules.
The video was re-uploaded that night but removed again on October 27, it said in a statement.
The WHC also claimed that Meta had cited “vague legal requirements” without specifying the legal provision or platform policy under which the video was restricted.
The WHC has voiced apprehension that “bias against Hindu causes may have been a factor” in the decision and questioned the “fairness and consistency of Meta’s content moderation policies”.
The World Hindu Congress is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from December 18 to 20.
