Kolkata, Oct 28 The West Bengal cabinet on Wednesday approved the state’s new industry policy, which aims to attract fresh investments through incentives, faster clearances and changes to land-allocation rules, officials said.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will formally announce the policy details from the state secretariat Nabanna on November 5, they said.
“Today, the cabinet gave its go-ahead to the new industry policy. The CM will announce the new policy on November 5 from the state secretariat,” a senior official said.
The government is looking to attract fresh investments through a package of incentives, a faster single-window clearance system and changes to land-allocation rules, he said.
The policy is likely to provide a framework to expedite approvals for industrial projects and ensure that land allotted for such purposes is put to use within a stipulated timeframe, he added.
“It seeks to simplify the process of setting up industries in the state and bring greater clarity to land-use requirements. The emphasis is on facilitating investment by speeding up clearances and ensuring that land allotted for industrial projects is used for the purpose for which it is given,” the official said.
Among the other proposals approved by the cabinet is renaming the state’s ‘Krishak Bandhu’ scheme as ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi’, the official said.
“The first instalment of Rs 2,000 is scheduled to be transferred directly to the bank accounts of around 48 lakh registered farmers on November 5 at a public meeting in Pursurah in Hooghly, in the presence of Adhikari and Agriculture Minister Dudh Kumar Mondal,” he said.
The cabinet also approved the proposal to observe ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ across the state from November 11 to 18.
