Mohali, Oct 28 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday filed a final chargesheet running into more than 52,000 pages in a disproportionate assets case against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

Speaking to the media, public prosecutor Ferry Sofat said the first chargesheet was filed against Majithia in August 2025, two months after the case was registered against the Akali leader, and the final chargesheet running into over 52,000 pages has now been filed in a Mohali court.

Terming the charges against him a “bundle of lies”, former Punjab minister Majithia said in a post on X, “No chargesheet was filed in the past five years, neither the original nor a supplementary one.

“This is a supplementary chargesheet in a disproportionate assets case. It took a year and a half to concoct this story, which is nothing but a bundle of lies. Truth will prevail. I will neither stop nor bow down from raising people’s issues.”

When the FIR was registered against Majithia, the investigators cited disproportionate assets and “illegal enrichments” worth Rs 540 crore, which was later increased to Rs 736 crore, Sofat said.

In the FIR, the Vigilance Bureau claimed the investigations revealed that more than Rs 540 crore of “drug money” had been laundered through several channels allegedly facilitated by Majithia.

The FIR stemmed from an investigation by a Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) into a 2021 drug case.

Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2021 based on the 2018 report of an anti-drug special task force (STF).

He spent more than five months in the Patiala jail before walking out in August 2022 after securing bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Commenting on the final chargesheet, AAP leader Manish Sisodia congratulated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his “courage and boldness”.

“The chargesheet filed by the Punjab Police against Majithia states how he earned Rs 736 crore through drug trafficking and deposited the money in the bank accounts of his companies. After the filing of this chargesheet, Majithia will rot in jail for the rest of his life,” Sisodia alleged on X.

“The entire Punjab knows that the drug menace, particularly ‘chitta’ trade, emerged in the state during the 10 years of Akali-BJP rule from 2007 to 2017.

“Majithia was so powerful that no one dared to speak against him. It was Bhagwant Mann who sent Majithia to jail, and now a chargesheet has been filed against him in the court,” Sisodia added.

Speaking to the media, Majithia accused the AAP of misleading Punjabis by giving the disproportionate assets case the label of a drug case to “suppress” the issue of Punjab being “pushed into turmoil”.

Alleging that the AAP is attempting to divert public attention by presenting the matter as a drug trafficking case, Majithia said, “The legal proceedings raised serious questions about the claims of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

“The Supreme Court gave the government time until March 18, 2025, to establish the allegations against me, but the Mann government failed to do so.”

Flanked by his advocate D S Sobti, Majithia claimed that the government failed to establish any link between him and the alleged drug money of Rs 736 crore.

He also claimed that no concrete evidence had been produced to establish that he had any connection with drug trafficking.

The SAD leader said the government constituted four SITs to establish the allegations against him, but they failed to prove anything.
