Lucknow, Oct 30 The Uttar Pradesh Congress is mobilising workers across all six organisational zones and 75 districts to join the November 1 ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against alleged irregularities in voter lists.

The party has drawn up a mobilisation plan under state president Aradhana Misra ‘Mona’, with preparations being monitored through a control room at its Lucknow headquarters in coordination with the central war room in Delhi, the UP Congress said in a statement on Friday.

Misra said organisational meetings had been held in all six zones and district-level plans finalised to ensure maximum participation from the state.

Congress’ UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam said the rally was a commitment to protect democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ right to vote.

“‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ is not merely a rally slogan, but a commitment to protect democracy, the Constitution and every citizen’s right to vote. The vote is the people’s greatest democratic strength,” he said.

Gautam said the party was also reaching out to civil society groups, social organisations and intellectuals to broaden participation in the campaign.

Congress MP and state working president Imran Masood has been coordinating mobilisation in western UP and has held more than 30 organisational meetings, while senior state vice presidents Devendra Nishad and Alok Prasad have been assigned responsibility for eastern UP, the statement said.

Masood alleged that the Centre was attempting to take away people’s constitutional right to vote, adding that the party would oppose any such move.

Misra expressed confidence that a large number of Congress workers and citizens from UP would attend the rally and appealed to party members to participate with unity and discipline.
