Imphal, Oct 29 Two youths went missing in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, prompting a tribal organisation to call a 48-hour total shutdown from Thursday evening, officials said.
The two, identified as Thangginlun Chongloi (21) and Paoginlal Hangsing (20), went missing on Wednesday evening from near Taphou Kuki village, they said.
Their whereabouts remain unknown, and the circumstances surrounding their alleged abduction are under investigation, an official said.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) alleged that the two youths were abducted by “Naga militants” and condemned the incident.
The Kuki-based organisation announced a 48-hour total shutdown in the district from 5 pm on Thursday.
COTU demanded the immediate, safe and unconditional release of the two youths and urged the government to take urgent steps to rescue them.
More than 50 people have been killed and dozens of houses burnt across Tamenglong, Noney, Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts since ethnic clashes broke out between the Kuki and Naga communities in February this year.
