Agartala, Oct 29 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated two blocks of the Agartala Lighthouse Project in West Tripura district, saying the initiative would boost access to modern and affordable housing for economically weaker sections of society.
Saha inspected the buildings, which comprise 278 flats, before formally inaugurating them and symbolically handing over the keys to selected beneficiaries.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar joined the programme virtually from New Delhi.
Addressing the programme, Saha said administrative and financial complications had emerged at different stages of the project but were resolved with the cooperation of the Union minister and other stakeholders.
The chief minister expressed hope that the remaining blocks would be completed and handed over within the stipulated timeframe.
Saha said the Lighthouse Project was one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream initiatives, aimed at providing quality, sustainable and environment-friendly housing through modern construction technology.
Agartala is among six cities selected for the project. A total of 1,000 houses are planned in the city, with each flat measuring approximately 320 square feet.
Saha said the houses have been constructed using modern light gauge steel frame technology, offering an advanced, sustainable and cost-effective approach to urban housing.
The chief minister emphasised that a permanent house provides more than shelter, ensuring security, dignity and confidence for families.
He also stressed the importance of essential services, cleanliness, a healthy environment and social harmony in developing a planned residential area.
