Chennai, Oct 29 : The Tamil Nadu government has approved the recruitment of 8,000 Field Assistants in the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) through direct recruitment conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
According to a Government Order issued by the Energy Department on October 28, the recruitment process will be carried out in two phases over two years.
TNPDCL Recruitment 2027–2028: Vacancy Details
The government plans to fill 5,000 Field Assistant vacancies in 2027 and the remaining 3,000 posts in 2028.
The recruitment decision follows a proposal submitted by the Chairman and Managing Director of TNPDCL.
Field Assistant Salary and Pay Scale
The approved basic pay scale for Field Assistants ranges from Rs 18,800 to Rs 59,900. In addition to basic pay, employees will receive applicable allowances and pension contributions.
These include Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), medical allowance and the employer’s contribution to the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
According to the government order signed by Principal Secretary to Government Anil Meshram, the estimated monthly expenditure per employee is Rs 35,548, including applicable allowances and employer contributions.
TNPDCL Recruitment: Estimated Financial Expenditure
The government has estimated the annual financial commitment for filling all 8,000 posts at approximately Rs 341.26 crore.
For the first phase, covering 5,000 Field Assistants in 2027, the estimated annual expenditure will be Rs 213.28 crore, or around Rs 17.77 crore per month.
The recruitment of another 3,000 employees in 2028 will involve an additional annual expenditure of Rs 127.97 crore, equivalent to approximately Rs 10.66 crore per month.
The recruitment is expected to strengthen staffing in Tamil Nadu’s power distribution sector.
