Chennai, 28 The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced that all government offices, public sector undertakings, schools, colleges, and all educational institutions will remain closed on November 9.
In response to requests from students, parents, teachers, and government employees, who will be travelling to their hometowns to celebrate Deepavali, which falls on November 8, the government announced the holiday, an official release said.
To compensate for the holiday, November 28 will be a working day.
Since the holiday does not fall under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, district collectors have been instructed to ensure that treasuries and sub-treasuries across all districts function with essential staff to handle urgent official tasks, the release added.
