Kolkata, Oct 28 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday said the state government would hand over the investigation to the CID if Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee files an FIR over an alleged attempt to loot a vehicle carrying organisational documents and affidavits.

Banerjee, who heads the rebel Democratic Trinamool Congress faction, alleged on social media that an attempt was made to hijack a truck carrying hundreds of thousands of affidavits and other documents while on its way to submit those to the Election Commission (EC).

He claimed the documents were crucial to securing his faction’s claim to the official Trinamool Congress name and symbol.

Banerjee accused the rival faction led by Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating the alleged attempt to prevent the documents from reaching the EC.

Senior TMC leader Dola Sen dismissed the claims as baseless.

Responding to the issue in the Assembly, Adhikari said the government would initiate a CID probe once a formal complaint was lodged.

“Any such news (about the loot of documents) is not acceptable. You (Ritabrata) lodge an FIR; we will then hand over the case (of snatching or hijacking the documents) to our CID,” he said.
