Gurugram, Oct 30 A couple died after being mowed down by a speeding truck in Gurugram’s Sohna on Friday, police said.
The accident took place near Tikona Park at around 11 am when Sohrab (60) and his wife Khatija (58), residents of Karoli village, were on their way to Sohna market on a motorcycle. A speeding truck rammed into their two-wheeler, leaving both critically injured, they said.
While Khatija died on the spot, Sohrab succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, police added.
The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle after the accident. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified driver at Sohna City police station, and the truck has been seized, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sohrab, who had recently retired from the Public Health Department, where he worked as an operator, and his wife Khatija.
After receiving information about the accident, a police team reached the spot, took custody of the bodies and sent them to the mortuary for post-mortem examination, they said.
“An FIR has been registered against the unknown truck driver. We have seized the truck and are trying to nab the accused driver,” the investigating officer said.
