Kolkata, Oct 28 The SFI-controlled students’ union in Presidency University on Wednesday staged a protest on the campus here against “forays” of RSS-linked outfits into educational institutions in the state, including SRFTI.
Around 50 members of the CPI(M)’s students’ wing took out a rally on the main campus of Presidency University on College Street with placards denouncing “alleged attacks by RSS-linked bodies” on students of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) on September 27 and October 4 and ransacking of the Jadavpur University campus on August 29-30.
“Our protest also sought to highlight the growing number of attacks by right-wing forces on educational institutions across the country, and attempts to throttle democratic and liberal voices on campuses, including Jamia Millia Islamia, SRFTI and JU,” Students Federation of India’s (SFI) Presidency University unit’s spokesperson Beetan Islam said.
SFI will continue to fight for democratic rights, he added.
