Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Oct 28 Senior AIADMK leader Sellur K Raju on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements for party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s visit to Madurai to attend the Thevar guru puja.
Raju said Palaniswami is scheduled to arrive in Madurai from Chennai on Thursday at 2.05 pm. He will pay floral tributes to the Maruthu brothers near the Teppakulam Mariamman temple before proceeding to garland the statue of iconic leader Muthuramalinga Thevar to mark his birth anniversary celebrations, he told reporters here.
Earlier, at the party’s executive committee meeting, Raju launched a scathing attack on the ruling dispensation over various issues.
Targeting the state government, particularly Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and his ministers, the AIADMK leader alleged that the administration has failed to take any precautionary measures ahead of the festive season of Deepavali.
“The government has not taken any steps to control prices. The common man is bearing the brunt of the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities like rice, which has crossed the Rs 100 mark, along with onions and tomatoes,” he claimed.
He further criticised the government’s power procurement policies, stating that while the AIADMK regime procured power at Rs 13 to Rs 15 per unit, the current administration is purchasing power at significantly higher rates during peak hours.
He also alleged a lack of transparency in government tenders, pointing to the cancellation of the tender for printing the Meenakshi Amman temple calendar.
The former minister also raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, citing rising incidents of theft, chain snatching, and kidnapping.
He condemned the alleged laxity in prison administration following the escape of 17 inmates from a district jail in Theni and questioned the parole granted to convicts linked to the Coimbatore bomb blasts.
