Raipur, Oct 30 BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Friday accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of becoming “puppets” in the hands of forces opposed to India’s progress.

They are attempting to create anarchy in the country by spreading misinformation about constitutional processes, Trivedi said at a press conference at the BJP’s Chhattisgarh headquarters here as part of the party’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign.

At a time when several countries have been facing serious economic, political and social crises, India has been establishing its strong presence on the global stage, the BJP national spokesperson said.

“India has been moving towards new heights of development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, but its economic progress and growing global influence are not acceptable to several forces operating both within and outside the country. Such forces have been conspiring in various ways to obstruct India’s bright prospects and economic growth,” he said.

The conduct of the main opposition party (Congress) and Rahul Gandhi in the present circumstances raised serious questions about their role in a democracy, he added.

“The Congress is misleading people about legally established procedures and attempting to create instability by questioning constitutional institutions,” Trivedi said.

He also referred to the Centre’s campaign against Naxalism, and said the resolve to make India free of Maoist violence under PM Modi’s leadership has been fulfilled.

“Naxalism has ended here, but ‘intellectual Naxals’ have shifted to Delhi,” he alleged.

Rahul Gandhi’s conduct raises questions about the role of the opposition in a democracy, he said while citing the Lok Sabha LoP’s protests at various locations, including the Akashvani premises, outside the Prime Minister’s residence and a march towards the Supreme Court.

He alleged that the Congress wants issues to be settled through street protests and not in Parliament. The Congress seeks resistance rather than parliamentary discussions and democratic debate, he added.

Trivedi further accused the Congress of repeatedly spreading misinformation over several issues in the past 10-12 years, including the Rafale deal, surgical strikes, the Balakot air strike and Operation Sindoor.

The Congress had also spread misleading narratives about the country’s economy and institutions, he said.

“Congress had claimed LIC (Life Insurance Corporation) was ruined, but it is now reporting record profits. It had said SBI was in decline, while the bank has recorded its highest-ever profits since 2017-18. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) too, has orders worth Rs 1 lakh crore,” Trivedi pointed out.

Gandhi’s November 1 protest in the national capital could adversely affect business and commercial activities during the festive season, the BJP leader claimed.

Questioning the motive behind the proposed agitation, he asked which forces are influencing Gandhi and referred to the Congress leader’s earlier remark that his fight was against the “Indian State”.

Trivedi further accused the Congress of targeting India’s religious and cultural traditions, referring to Gandhi’s alleged remarks about fighting the “Shakti” in Hinduism.

He also questioned the Congress’s allegations of vote theft, citing its electoral performance in several states.

“Gandhi must explain the Congress’s poor electoral performance in these regions rather than repeatedly questioning election results. The people have supported BJP and NDA despite repeated attempts by Congress to create political instability. People, particularly the youth, must remain alert against attempts to obstruct the country’s development,” Trivedi said.
