Nanded, Oct 27 (PTI) The Nanded Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Maharashtra has appealed to passengers travelling by private buses during the Diwali holidays to report operators charging fares beyond the permitted limits.

While festival fares for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses may be up to 1.5 times the regular fare under applicable provisions, private bus operators cannot arbitrarily charge higher fares, a district administration release on Monday said.

Passengers should verify fares before booking tickets and preserve tickets and payment receipts as evidence, it said.

Complaints can be lodged with the Nanded RTO via email or by calling. Passengers should provide the bus operator’s name, vehicle number, route, travel date and fare charged, it added.

The administration appealed to travellers to report violations to prevent financial exploitation during the festive season.
