Faridabad, Oct 21 A monkey that had bitten more than 30 people and had a bounty of Rs 51,000 was captured in the Hathin area of Palwal district by locals, who were seen slapping the simian out of apparent frustration.

The monkey was captured on Wednesday.

A video going viral on social media showed a man carrying the animal on his shoulders, with its hands tied, while people behind him slap it and hit it with sticks.

Another video showed the monkey being thrown from a high water tank before its capture.

The monkey had injured more than 30 people over the past several days, said Sumit Rajput, an aide of Hathin Municipal Council Chairman Renu Lata, on Thursday.

He said the chairman announced a reward of Rs 51,000 for its capture, which would be paid from her own pocket.

Rajput said three monkeys have been caught so far, and a private team has been called in to catch such aggressive monkeys.

Rs 30,000 cash reward has been paid so far, he added.

But locals claimed that the number of such monkeys runs into hundreds.

The municipal administration said it has initiated a tender process for capturing the monkeys, but has not received a favourable response.

Residents have demanded swift action from the administration, saying that adequate teams should be deployed to prevent monkey attacks and safe and humane methods should be adopted during its capture.
