Bengaluru, Oct 30 Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday directed officials to prepare a comprehensive, long-term master plan to ensure reliable drinking water supply, road connectivity and underground drainage facilities across Bengaluru Urban district.
Chairing the fourth Executive Committee meeting of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) at Vikas Soudha here, the minister stressed that infrastructure planning must keep pace with the city’s growth and extend beyond the GBA limits.
According to a GBA statement, Gowda emphasised the need to prioritise sewage treatment and reuse, citing the KC Valley, HN Valley and Vrishabhavathi Valley projects, which supply treated wastewater to lakes across several districts and help improve groundwater levels.
Expressing concern over traffic congestion and poor road conditions caused by repeated excavation, he said agencies carrying out such work must take full responsibility for restoring the roads.
The minister for Greater Bengaluru Development said a uniform policy and standard operating procedure would be introduced to define responsibilities, restoration standards, cost recovery and penalties for violations.
To improve public transport connectivity, Gowda directed the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation to introduce GPS-enabled feeder bus services within a 2-3 km radius of Metro stations, with fixed routes to strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity.
He said approval had been granted to establish nine additional fire stations across the five municipal corporations under the GBA, taking the total number of fire stations to 29.
Officials were directed to map residential, commercial and high-risk areas and prepare a proposal for additional fire stations based on future requirements.
