Lucknow, Oct 29 The Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow on Thursday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next two days and possible hailstorm in western Uttar Pradesh, attributing the change in weather to severe cyclonic storm ‘ Arnab ‘ and a possible interaction with a western disturbance.

The Met office also predicted a significant drop of around 5-8 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature across the state on October 29 and 30.

Issuing an orange alert, it warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph and occasionally 50 kmph in several parts of the state.

The districts likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday are Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi and Ghazipur. While Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia and Deoria are likely to receive heavy rain.

The weather system, which weakened into a depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south Odisha on Thursday morning, is expected to move northwards and further weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by the evening, it said.

On Friday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Shravasti and Bahraich.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast in Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Ayodhya and Ambedkar Nagar.

The Met has also warned of gusty winds and thunderstorms in several districts, including Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur and Amethi, and possible hailstorms in parts of western Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Rainfall activity is expected to decrease thereafter.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh may receive isolated showers on October 31 and November 1 and 2, and dry weather is likely to prevail in western Uttar Pradesh from November 1, it said.

The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and keep away from waterlogged areas and swollen rivers.
