Mumbai, Oct 28 A total of 19,60,258 forms were received from voters to enrol themselves, correct details in existing entries or raise objections across 36 districts of Maharashtra between August 31 and October 26, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Wednesday.
After the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, the ECI had published the draft voter list on August 31, excluding more than 2.06 crore electors, accounting for 21.14 per cent of Maharashtra’s previous voter base.
It subsequently allowed for filing claims and objections to the draft electoral roll. Earlier this month, it extended the deadline to October 26. The final electoral rolls will be published on November 16, according to officials.
As per the ECI, 1,270,898 Form 6 applications were filed, followed by 621,277 Form 8 applications and Form 7 requests (68,083) till October 26, taking the total number of electoral forms to 19,60,258.
While Form 6 allows a citizen of India who has completed 18 years of age to become a new voter, Form 7 is used by electors to object to someone’s inclusion in the voter list or request deletion of a name already listed.
Form 8 is used to shift a citizen’s voter registration to a new address within the same constituency.
Mumbai Suburban recorded the highest number of forms at 1,49,850, followed by Pune at 1,35,646 and Thane at 1,35,150, the ECI data showed.
Nashik received 96,362 forms, while Jalgaon recorded 82,419. Ahmednagar (77,382), Aurangabad (73,843), Nanded (70,430) and Mumbai City (67,259) came next.
Satara recorded 65,907 forms, while Buldhana received 61,693 and Yavatmal 60,042.
Among the other districts, Nagpur received 55,144 forms, Beed 54,357, Chandrapur 50,635, Solapur 50,156, Akola 50,081, Kolhapur 49,857 and Raigad 49,116.
Gondia recorded 23,130 forms, Washim 19,669, Nandurbar 18,471, Gadchiroli 17,060 and Sindhudurg 12,502, the lowest among the districts.
Maharashtra had 9,78,54,049 electors on the rolls before the SIR. The draft electoral rolls published on August 31 included 7,71,65,562 electors (78.86 per cent). The enumeration forms concerning over 2.06 crore citizens were uncollectable because they were either untraceable, deceased, or had shifted residences, poll officials had said earlier.
The applications received and notices issued by authorities in this connection must be processed by November 10.
