Latur, Oct 26 The Latur Municipal Corporation (LMC) disconnected 28 unauthorised water connections along the main supply pipeline from Manjara dam at Dhanegaon to the treatment plant at Harangul, officials said on Monday.

The drive was carried out on Sunday to curb water theft, prevent wastage and ensure uninterrupted water supply to Latur city, they added.

A special search team of the civic body removed illegal connections and seized pipes allegedly used for unauthorised water extraction. This was the third such drive, they said.

“Despite two previous drives to remove illegal connections along the main pipeline, unauthorised tapping was found to continue at several locations, prompting the administration to launch another crackdown. The operation covered Tandulja, Ranjani, Ghargaon, Tadgaon and Hingangaon,” an official said.

The highest number of illegal connections 11 were found at Hingangaon, followed by nine at Ghargaon, five at Ranjani, two at Tadgaon and one at Tandulja, he informed.

Municipal commissioner Rahul Kulkarni, who was present at Tandulja during the operation, said unauthorised extraction of water from the main pipeline or lakes would not be tolerated.

“The civic body plans to intensify its search operations to identify illegal connections and prevent unauthorised water use. Residents must use water judiciously and regularise unauthorised connections wherever applicable to help ensure a regular and uninterrupted water supply,” he said.
