Shimla, Oct 26 Himachal BJP on Friday held a protest here against Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded an apology.

The demonstration was led by BJP state general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Sikander Kumar.

BJP workers raised slogans and burnt an effigy of Kharge during the protest. A scuffle also broke out between protesters and police personnel.

Addressing the gathering, Kumar strongly condemned the alleged use of insulting language against Modi, describing it as contrary to Indian culture, traditional values, and democratic decorum. He asserted that the BJP would not tolerate such remarks under any circumstances.

“Mallikarjun Kharge is a senior political leader, and we respect his position and experience. However, political differences cannot justify insulting someone’s parents or family members. Such language has no place in public life,” he said.

Kumar warned that if the Congress leadership continued to use “objectionable language”, the BJP would organise protests across the country.

He emphasised that political disagreements are natural in a democracy, but personal insults and disrespectful language must never become part of political discourse.

Criticising Congress over its voter theft allegations, Kumar alleged that the party was attempting to mislead the public by repeatedly raising issues concerning the Constitution and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He said SIR was not a new exercise and that similar processes had been undertaken during previous governments, including Congress-led administrations.

Kumar said the SIR’s purpose is to update electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible Indian citizen is registered as a voter while entries relating to deceased persons, relocated voters and duplicate registrations are examined according to established procedures.

The BJP leader stressed that the voting rights of eligible citizens must remain fully protected throughout the exercise.

Questioning the Congress party’s proposed November 1 rally in Delhi, Kumar said that if the grand old party has evidence of irregularities in electoral rolls, it should approach the Election Commission and the appropriate judicial authorities.

He also questioned the Congress party’s historical record, referring to the Emergency and electoral controversies involving former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The Rajya Sabha MP alleged that Congress had repeatedly questioned democratic institutions whenever their decisions did not align with its political interests, and maintained that the BJP respects the Election Commission and supports a transparent, impartial and credible electoral process.

He urged Congress leaders to raise their objections through established legal and constitutional mechanisms rather than making allegations without presenting supporting evidence.
