Bengaluru, Oct 28 K-RIDE has installed two 61-metre-long open-web girders, each weighing around 245 tonnes, over National Highway-44 near Chandapura as part of the 48-km Baiyappanahalli-Hosur railway doubling project, officials said on Wednesday.

The first girder was installed on October 10, and the second on October 28, K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company Karnataka Limited) said in a statement.

The long girders will eliminate the need for a pillar in the middle of the highway crossing, helping traffic move more smoothly and making room for the planned 12-lane highway, subject to the approved design.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety and increase rail capacity along the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor, it added.

The railway doubling and related works are expected to be completed by January 2027, the statement said.

K-RIDE Managing Director Lakshman Singh said the installation of both girders was a major milestone in the project.

“The grade-separated crossing will enable road and rail traffic to move independently, minimising disruptions to highway traffic caused by railway operations,” he said.

Once completed and opened for use, the facility is expected to improve traffic flow and transport operations at the crossing, he added.

“This progress reflects our continued commitment to engineering excellence, quality infrastructure development and improved regional connectivity across Karnataka,” Singh said. PTI AMP
