Ranchi, Oct 26 Jharkhand farmers will get a bonus of Rs 109 per quintal on paddy, in addition to the Centre’s minimum support price (MSP) for crops in the 2026-27 fiscal year, state Food and Public Distribution Minister Irfan Ansari said on Monday.

In 2025-26, the Jharkhand government had approved a bonus of Rs 81 per quintal.

“The government has decided to increase the farmers’ bonus amount to Rs 109. Farmers will get the payment in a one-time settlement as in the previous year. Besides, this time our target for paddy procurement is 40 lakh quintals, which is 20 lakh quintals lower than the last kharif season,” Ansari told reporters.

The Centre has fixed the MSP for common paddy at Rs 2,441 and for Grade ‘A’ paddy at Rs 2,461 per quintal for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This means farmers will receive an additional Rs 109 per quintal from the state government, he said.

Based on the target of procuring 40 lakh quintals of paddy, Rs 43.60 crore has been estimated for bonus payment at Rs 109 per quintal. The proposal has been placed before the Scheme Authorised Committee (SAC) for approval of this amount, Ansari added.

According to the departmental assessment, the requirement of paddy is estimated at 19.60 lakh quintals for the central government’s National Food Security Act (NFSA) central pool and 19.79 lakh quintals for the Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme (JSFSS). Therefore, a proposal has been made to round off the target and fix it at 40 lakh quintal, he said.

Ansari further said the government will also take steps to curb inflows from neighbouring states of Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh because last time, a large number of farmers from these states came to sell their produce under the one-time payment system.

Ensuring that farmers get a fair price for their produce, increasing their income and making farming more profitable are the government’s priorities, the minister said.
