Kolkata, Oct 27 Jindal (India) Ltd, part of the BC Jindal Group, on Tuesday said it has commissioned its revamped Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL-5) at its Ranihati facility in West Bengal after an investment of Rs 50 crore.
The revamp has raised the line’s production capacity by 51 per cent, from 590 tonnes per day (TPD) to 889 TPD. The commissioning also marked the start of prime coil production at the plant, the company said.
With the latest enhancement, Jindal (India)’s coated sheet production capacity stands at around 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). It also has about 0.5 MTPA of pipe manufacturing capacity, taking its overall downstream steel manufacturing capacity to around 1.6 MTPA.
As part of the revamp, the furnace capacity of the line has been increased by over 100 per cent. The upgrade also includes the addition of an Electrolytic Cleaning Line (ECL), a second recoiler, higher strip accumulation, increased heating furnace capacity and improved cooling performance, all within the existing shed constraints.
The company said these enhancements are expected to improve the line’s productivity, process capability and ability to cater to evolving customer requirements.
“The successful commissioning of the revamped CGL-5 is an important milestone in our ongoing journey of capacity enhancement and modernisation. The increase in the line’s production capacity from 590 TPD to 889 TPD strengthens our ability to cater to the growing demand for value-added coated steel products,” a BC Jindal Group spokesperson said.
“With our overall downstream steel manufacturing capacity now at around 1.6 MTPA, we have built a stronger manufacturing platform for the next phase of our growth. As we approach our Platinum Jubilee year in 2027, our focus will remain on enhancing our product capabilities, adopting advanced technologies and creating greater value for our customers,” the spokesperson added.
The company has two manufacturing facilities at Jangalpur and Ranihati in Howrah, with capabilities spanning advanced colour coating and metal coating technologies.
