New Delhi, Oct 25 BJP’s ally JD(U) on Sunday condemned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and rejected his allegations of electoral malpractice in Bihar.

The Congress chief made the remarks during a function organised to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Srikrishna Singh, in Patna. As Kharge said in his address that the Congress will send those involved in carrying out alleged irregularities in the SIR process to jail, a person in the audience shouted, “As long as there is no rebellion, Modi won’t go anywhere.”

The Congress president shot back, saying, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Let alone Modi, even his father would go).

In a video statement, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said his party condemns Kharge’s remarks in the strongest possible terms.

“There is little hope of any significant change in the Congress party’s conduct, character or approach,” Prasad added.

Rejecting Kharge’s allegations on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Bihar elections, Prasad said the state polls were conducted with complete “honesty, impartiality and transparency”.

He said Congress has no justification for questioning the electoral mandate.

“People have reduced the party to just six seats and pushed it into a position from which it will never be able to recover,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Kharge dubbed protests against the SIR exercise a “second war of independence” and demanded an immediate halt to the revision of electoral rolls. He sought the use of ballot papers in all future elections and annulment of all Assembly elections held over the past two years.

Alleging manipulation of electoral rolls and deletion of names of opposition supporters, Kharge questioned the integrity of the electoral process and the Election Commission.

“Governments stolen through ‘vote chori’ in West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar and Maharashtra must be removed,” he said, urging people to take to the streets, fight for their rights and safeguard the Constitution.
