Chennai, Oct 25 Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday criticised the Tamil Nadu government for forcing the RSS to approach the courts for permission to conduct route marches, describing the outfit as a disciplined “Seva” (service) organisation.
Her remarks came during the RSS route march held in Egmore on Sunday, part of a state-wide series of processions marking the organisation’s centenary celebrations. The marches were held across Tamil Nadu following a recent Madras High Court order granting the RSS permission to conduct processions at 128 locations.
Speaking to reporters at the Egmore event, Soundararajan criticised both the present and previous state governments for their reluctance to grant permission for the march voluntarily.
She alleged that while “drug abusers and culprits are roaming freely” in the state with “no law and order situation at all,” the government ironically cites law and order concerns to deny permission for a peaceful march.
The BJP leader also hit out at political figures, including VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan and CPI(M) leader Shanmugam, accusing them of consistently painting a negative picture of the RSS.
“The true nature of RSS is mispropagated in Tamil Nadu,” she said, urging the state government to recognise the RSS as a service organisation and grant permissions voluntarily for its activities in the future.
Sharing a personal anecdote, Soundararajan, who hails from a family with a Congress background, recalled her first encounter with the organisation during her days as a house surgeon at Thanjavur Medical College.
When a patient suffering from blood vomiting urgently needed a transfusion, RSS swayamsevaks from Trichy arrived to donate blood without even revealing their identities, ultimately saving the patient’s life.
“From that time, I started participating in Seva activities of RSS, blood donation camps, and medical camps,” she said, adding that she wrote a book titled ‘A Century of Service’ as a mark of gratitude to the organisation, which is now stepping into its 101st year.
Highlighting the core message of Sunday’s route march, Soundararajan stated that the RSS stands for unity, discipline, and serving the people. “Real social justice we can see in RSS. We don’t know which caste or religion they belong to, even minorities are there,” she remarked.
