New Delhi, Oct 30 The Janata Dal (United) on Friday celebrated its foundation day, with party leaders crediting its chief Nitish Kumar’s leadership for advancing Bihar’s development, social justice and good governance.

JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha congratulated senior leaders, workers and supporters on the occasion, saying the party has “carved out a distinct identity in Bihar’s politics” with the trust of the people, dedication of its workers and its resolve for good governance.

In a post on X, Jha said that under Nitish Kumar’s leadership and guidance, the party has played a pivotal role in advancing Bihar’s development, social justice and inclusive growth.

“With the trust of the people, the dedication of its workers, and the resolve for good governance, the Janata Dal (United) has carved out a distinct identity in Bihar’s politics. Under the leadership and guidance of our esteemed National President Nitish Kumar ji, the party has played a pivotal role in advancing Bihar’s development, social justice, good governance, and inclusive growth,” he wrote.

Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh also extended his wishes to party leaders and workers, saying the JD(U)’s political journey under Nitish Kumar has remained committed to social justice, good governance, inclusive development and democratic values.

He said the association of Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar, Bihar’s health minister, with the party has brought greater participation from the younger generation and generated fresh hopes for the organisation’s future.

“This milestone of 23 years is a time to take pride in the party’s achievements,” Lalan Singh said in a post on X, expressing hope that party leaders and workers will continue their dedication and strengthen their resolve to serve the people.

The JD(U) was formed on October 30, 2003, through the merger of the Janata Dal faction led by Sharad Yadav, the Samata Party led by George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar, and the Lok Shakti party. George Fernandes became its first president.

In alliance with the BJP, JD (U) defeated the RJD-led government in the 2005 Assembly elections, with Nitish Kumar subsequently becoming chief minister.

The JD(U) has since remained a key player in Bihar politics and is a key constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre.
