New Delhi, Oct 29 Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA will open a ‘city store’ in Bengaluru next month, nearly four-and-a-half years after its large-format store became operational in the city.
The ‘city centre store’ will open on November 5, 2026, as the company expands its presence in South Bengaluru.
IKEA opened its first store in Bengaluru in June 2022, following its entry into the city through e-commerce in 2021. The 4.6-lakh-square-feet Nagasandra outlet, which opened to the public on June 22, 2022, was IKEA’s first physical store in Karnataka.
The city centre store will have a retail area of 80,000 square feet, offering more than 5,200 products.
“Bengaluru holds a special place in our India journey. Over the last five years, we have been welcomed into thousands of homes and have had the opportunity to learn from customers about how they live, what they value, and how their needs are evolving,” IKEA India CEO Patrik Antoni said.
Opening another store in Bengaluru is a milestone for the company and reflects its commitment to improving accessibility and convenience for customers, he added.
The new outlet has been designed around changing home furnishing needs in South Bengaluru, where a mix of independent houses, multi-generational homes and compact apartments is driving interest in multi-functional furniture and space-saving storage solutions.
IKEA’s large-format stores offer a broader, full-scale shopping experience, while city stores are smaller, more accessible urban outlets designed to bring home furnishing products and planning services closer to customers.
IKEA currently has four city stores — Worli in Mumbai, Tagore Garden and DLF Avenue, Saket at New Delhi, and Phoenix Marketcity at Pune.
It operates three large format stores in India at Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru. It has an online presence in Maharashtra, AP-Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Delhi-NCR, Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, and Goa.
The company also operates two distribution centres in India – in Pune and Gurgaon.
