Chandigarh, Oct 30 Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal on Friday reviewed the status of CCTV cameras installed at police stations, verification and updating of data on active criminals, and the effective use of the facial recognition system, among other measures.

In a meeting at the Police Headquarters in Panchkula, he also reviewed policing activities including night nakabandi, action against vehicles operating without number plates or High Security Registration Plates, and measures to reduce the response time of Emergency Response Vehicles.

Night nakabandi is a temporary police checkpoint set up during night hours to inspect vehicles, verify credentials, and deter criminal activity.

Additional Directors General of Police, Inspectors General of Police, Superintendents of Police and other senior officers from across the state participated in the meeting through video conferencing, according to an official statement.

At the meeting, officials informed DGP Singhal that Haryana has 389 police stations and 327 police posts.

They said the Haryana Police Housing Corporation has installed 6,644 CCTV cameras in police stations and police posts under its CCTV project.

Singhal directed that all CCTV cameras should be fully functional and must be installed at the designated locations in police stations and police posts as directed by the Supreme Court.

He directed that a committee be constituted to review the location, operational status, technical faults and network-related issues of these cameras, so that deficiencies can be identified and rectified on time.

He instructed all superintendents of police to hold regular meetings in their respective districts to review the status of CCTV cameras.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Rakesh Arya said physical verification of 47,124 active criminals has been completed across the state as of October 29.

Photographs of 29,416 criminals have been uploaded to the Facial Recognition System. Hundred per cent physical verification of active criminal data had been completed in 11 districts.

DGP Singhal said the Facial Recognition System plays a vital role in identifying criminals. The data uploaded to the system will remain available for future reference and will help identify criminals and monitor their activities.

He said districts that have completed 100 per cent verification of active criminals’ data should start uploading the data of proclaimed offenders, bail jumpers and most-wanted criminals to the Facial Recognition System.

Singhal said arrangements for ‘night nakabandi’ across the state were yielding positive results. As part of night nakabandi, police conduct regular interstate and interdistrict checking to monitor movement of criminals and prevent crime.

Further, Singhal said vehicles operating without number plates or prescribed High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) could pose a challenge to law and order. Such vehicles are difficult to identify, making it difficult to investigate crimes and apprehend criminals.

He asked the officials to encourage the public to install HSRPs on their vehicles.

At the meeting, officials said that a special campaign was underway since June 1, 2026 against such vehicles, and a total of 31,22,168 vehicles were checked as of October 28.

During this period, 1,14,566 challans were issued for vehicles found operating without number plates, while 1,57,926 challans were issued for vehicles without HSRPs. A total of 22,269 vehicles were also impounded during the same period.

The functioning of Haryana Police’s Emergency Response Support System was also reviewed. After reviewing the performance and response times of Emergency Response Vehicles deployed across the districts, the DGP issued necessary directions to the officers concerned.
