Chandigarh, Oct 30 Ahead of the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against “vote chori”, the Haryana Congress on Friday held meetings in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat for finalising a strategy to ensure maximum participation at the event from the state, party leaders said.
The Congress in-charge for Haryana, Sanjay Dutt, and state unit president, Rao Narendra Singh, took part in the meetings with senior party leaders, district office-bearers and workers.
The meetings reviewed the preparations for the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally in Delhi, which will be led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the Ramlila Maidan as part of the opposition bloc’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and the demand for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
A strategy has been finalised to ensure maximum public participation in the rally from all the districts of Haryana, the party leaders said.
Dutt said that protecting democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ voting rights have emerged as one of the most important challenges facing the country today.
He emphasised that addressing serious questions about the fairness of the electoral process and the credibility of the electoral system, while safeguarding the democratic rights of the citizens, remained a top priority for the Congress.
Dutt called upon the party leaders and workers to work with complete unity and commitment to ensure the success of the rally and take the party’s message to every village and every street.
Singh said that protecting every citizen’s right to vote and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process were essential for a strong democracy.
“The Congress is committed to fighting this battle with determination. The mega rally on November 1 is an important opportunity to strengthen the nationwide struggle to protect democracy and the Constitution,” he said.
According to Haryana Congress, the meetings emphasised that the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ campaign should not remain confined to the November 1 rally but be taken forward as a statewide public awareness movement.
Discussions were held on strategies to educate people in villages, towns and cities about their democratic rights, and the importance of free and fair elections, the Congress said.
Dutt and Singh also held a virtual meeting with AICC observers appointed for the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ campaign in Haryana to review the preparations for the mobilisation of people from the state for the Delhi rally.
The leaders took a district-wise assessment of the mobilisation efforts, reviewed the organisational preparedness and discussed the arrangements being made to ensure maximum participation of Congress leaders, elected representatives, office-bearers and supporters from every district in the rally, a party statement said.
Dutt and Singh later met senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala in Delhi.
According to the statement, based on “encouraging” ground-level reports from various parts of Haryana and the “unprecedented” enthusiasm witnessed among the Congress workers, leaders and the public, the party leaders are confident that Haryana’s presence at the Ramlila Maidan would be “historic”.
The leaders reaffirmed their resolve that the Congress would continue its nationwide struggle with full determination to protect every citizen’s right to vote, uphold the dignity of the Constitution and safeguard the foundations of Indian democracy, it said.
