Gurugram, Oct 25 Seventeen people, including 15 women wage labourers, travelling in a tempo were injured on Sunday morning after a speeding car rammed into the vehicle near the Eldeco society on the Sohna-Gurugram road, police said.
The impact was so severe that the tempo overturned three times on the road, they said.
All the injured were taken to Sohna Civil Hospital, where, following initial treatment, three individuals with serious injuries were referred to Gurugram, they added.
According to the police, most of the women travelling in the tempo are daily wage labourers. On Sunday morning, they were on their way to work at Central Park, located along the Sohna-Gurugram road.
Near Eldeco Society, a speeding car collided with their tempo. Upon impact, the driver lost control, and the tempo overturned three times on the road. The sudden accident led to cries and commotion at the scene. Bystanders stepped in to help pull the injured from the tempo and rushed them to the hospital.
After getting information, the police arrived at the scene and assessed the situation. They took the car involved in the accident into custody while the driver managed to flee away from the spot, they added.
A senior police officer said that they are currently investigating the causes of the accident, the speed of the car, and the role of the driver.
