NEW DELHI, Oct 30 Fouzia Dastango, touted to be India’s first female Dastango, brings alive the life, artistry and enduring legacy of the legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt through a special presentation at “Natyakumbh 2026: The Great Indian Drama Festival” here on Friday.

Titled “Dastaan-e-Guru Dutt”, the performance will be staged at the Little Theatre Group Auditorium, Mandi House, at 7.30 pm. It will be presented and curated by Roopali and Vikas Jalan, with research by Asha Batra.

Fouzia will perform alongside her team.

“Blending the art of oral storytelling with literary and cultural expression, the presentation will bring audiences closer to the cinematic world and creative legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers,” the organisers said in a statement.

Dutt, widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in Indian cinema, was the creative force behind several cinematic classics, including “Pyaasa”, “Kaagaz Ke Phool” and “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam”.

His distinctive storytelling and exploration of human emotions have continued to influence generations of filmmakers and cinephiles.

The Guru Dutt tribute is part of Fouzia’s wider repertoire, which includes productions on Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Kabir, Amir Khusrau, Mahabharata, Ram and Mahatma Gandhi.

Known for her work in Urdu storytelling, Fouzia, who has been performing professionally since 2006, has presented more than 500 performances in India and abroad.

Her works draw deeply from the cultural ethos of Old Delhi, with a focus on preserving its social dialects, speech traditions and linguistic nuances.
