Kolkata, Oct 29 The Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) has issued bonus shares in the ratio of two for every existing share, increasing its equity share count threefold, following a sharp rise in its net profit in the financial year 2025-26 due to the monetisation of a land parcel.
CSE reported a net profit of around Rs 215.57 crore in FY26, against a loss of Rs 21.87 crore in the previous fiscal year, driven by a turnaround and a one-time profit of Rs 249.28 crore from the sub-lease of its three-acre land parcel on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata.
The exchange had sub-leased the land for a consideration of Rs 253 crore.
The transaction had received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), subject to conditions governing the use of the proceeds.
The shareholders approved the bonus issue at the recent 103rd AGM. The share capital will stand increased from Rs 6,11,250 to Rs 18,33,750 comprising 18,33,750 equity shares of Rs 1 each.
The bonus issue increases the number of shares held by existing shareholders but does not, by itself, bring fresh funds into the exchange or increase the overall value of their holdings at the time of the adjustment.
The bonus issue comes as the 118-year-old exchange explores reviving its trading platform with support from the West Bengal government. SEBI had barred trading in CSE as an independent stock exchange since April 2013.
CSE board decided in June to approach SEBI to keep its February 2025 application seeking voluntary exit from the stock exchange business in abeyance.
