Sukma, Oct 14 Eight villagers were injured after a man allegedly attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon and stones before collapsing and dying in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Burklanka village under the Kistaram police station limits, an official statement said.

The accused, Muchaki Kosa, a local resident, was reportedly suffering from severe mental health issues and had not eaten for days, it said.

On Tuesday evening, he suddenly attacked his uncle Muchaki Sukdi with a ‘banda’, a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting a serious injury to the latter’s neck. Kosa then attacked other villagers with the same weapon and stones, injuring a total of eight people including women, the statement said.

Some time later, Kosa, who was dehydrated and physically extremely weak, collapsed on the spot and died.

Preliminary examination suggested that the death was caused by prolonged starvation and extreme physical weakness, though the exact cause will be confirmed by the post-mortem report, the statement said.

All eight injured villagers were given first aid and admitted to the Community Health Centre in Konta. They were stated to be out of danger.
