Beed, Oct 24 A three-year-old girl died of severe burns after a pot of boiling milk spilled on her while she was trying to escape a barking dog in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said on Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred when Durga Pradeep Budhnar was playing outside her home at Nandur Haveli on Thursday, a local policeman said.
A stray dog suddenly charged towards her, barking aggressively. The girl panicked and sprinted towards her home to escape. In her rush, she tripped over a large vessel of boiling milk placed over an earthen chulha in the courtyard, said the official.
The boiling milk fell all over the kid, causing extensive burn injuries. Her parents rushed her to a private hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the Beed District Civil Hospital, but the girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The tragedy came just days after the family celebrated her third birthday on Dussehra, the official added.
