Gurugram, Oct 28 A Maruti Swift travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur was gutted in a fire near Bilaspur Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, disrupting traffic for some time, a fire official said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred late Tuesday evening when smoke began billowing from the car’s engine area as it approached Bilaspur Chowk, eyewitnesses said.
Noticing the smoke, the driver stopped the vehicle and jumped out just in time. The flames soon spread through the car, completely gutting it, the official said.
Police and fire department teams rushed to the spot after receiving information. Fire personnel managed to bring the blaze under control, but the car was completely gutted.
The incident led to long queues of vehicles on the busy highway. Police later used a crane to remove the damaged car from the road, helping restore traffic flow, officials said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire. The exact cause will be ascertained after a detailed investigation, a senior fire officer said.
