Indore, Oct 30 The ruling BJP on Friday launched a ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ march in Indore, alleging that the Congress and its allies were trying to grant voting rights to infiltrators by opposing the Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
Led by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, senior leaders and thousands of party workers carrying national flags marched from Pardeshipura to Patnipura Square.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Mandaviya said ancestors of those who now carry copies of the Constitution had never respected the document or democratic institutions.
He accused opposition parties of misleading the public by casting doubts on the functioning of the Election Commission.
The Union Minister said the SIR exercise aims to purify voter lists and alleged that opposition parties had united against the drive to help infiltrators.
BJP state organisation in-charge Biplab Kumar Deb, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal, and senior state minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also took part in the march, in which two lakh people participated, according to the party.
