Kolkata, Oct 27 Election officials of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday held a series of meetings with administrative officials and representatives of political parties to discuss the upcoming elections to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
A portion of the KMC area falls in the district.
The State Election Commission would issue a notification for elections to seven civic bodies — KMC, Howrah Municipal Corporation and Bally, Haldia, Dhupguri, Kalimpong and Kurseong municipalities, sources said.
The meetings were held to discuss issues related to the civic polls in Kolkata.
The first meeting covered boroughs one to eight, while the second covered boroughs nine to 16 of the KMC, they added.
Meanwhile, Mamata AITC leader Baiswanor Chatterjee and Congress leader Asutosh Chatterjee alleged that the SEC was carrying out delimitation of wards of the KMC under the ruling BJP’s directive to help the party.
The draft electoral roll for the KMC election was published on October 26, covering over 32 lakh voters across 209 wards, up from 144 wards.
“We have urged the SEC that the KMC and Howrah Municipal Corporation polls be deferred until the special summary revision (SSR) is effected,” Chatterjee said.
