Itanagar, Oct 29 Arunachal Pradesh Governor K T Parnaik on Thursday extended support to the nationwide green Diwali campaign 2026.

The governor urged the people of the state to celebrate the festival of lights in an environment-friendly, safe and responsible manner, an official statement from Lok Bhavan said.

Praising the nationwide campaign, supported by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change through WWF-India’s Programme Centre Resource Partner, being observed from October 20 to November 8, he said the initiative complements the spirit of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and encourages citizens to adopt sustainable lifestyles through conscious everyday choices.

Emphasising the importance of safeguarding public health and the natural environment, Parnaik encouraged families, particularly the youth, to choose traditional lamps, share sweets, support local artisans and promote community celebrations.

He noted that excessive firecracker use can adversely affect children, senior citizens, persons with respiratory sensitivities, animals and birds, besides contributing to air and noise pollution.

Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil, he said, and appealed to the people to celebrate Diwali by reducing the use of firecrackers, avoiding noise and air pollution, and adopting eco-friendly practices.

He also called upon educational institutions, community organisations and local bodies to actively spread awareness about green celebrations.

The governor expressed confidence that the people of Arunachal Pradesh would lead by example and make Diwali a festival of joy, goodwill and environmental responsibility, contributing to a cleaner, healthier and greener India.
