New Delhi, Oct 30 The Aam Aadmi Party will announce its first list of candidates for the 2027 Punjab elections on Saturday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said after a meeting with the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and state in-charge Manish Sisodia to discuss poll preparations.
Punjab AAP president Aman Arora and state Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also attended the meeting virtually.
Mann said several names were discussed at the meeting and the shortlisted ones would be sent to the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) on Friday evening.
“The PAC will meet again tomorrow at 11 am. The first list will be finalised after that meeting. I will share the list here around 12 noon,” Mann told reporters.
He clarified that the names had not been finalised yet, adding that the party would consider public feedback and the performance of the sitting MLAs before selecting the candidates.
The AAP would seek votes based on the work done by the Punjab government over the last five years, Mann said, citing electricity, water supply, schools, hospitals, infrastructure and roads as key areas of development.
“We want to do positive politics. We have discussed several issues today,” he said, terming the meeting “productive”.
Mann said the AAP would hold more meetings and conduct more surveys as part of its preparations for the elections.
The elections to the 117-member Punjab Assembly are due early next year. The five-year term of the present Assembly ends on March 16, 2027.
