Agartala, Nov 3 The BJP on Tuesday named 45 candidates for the Agartala Municipal Corporation, dropping the AMC mayor, who is also an MLA.
Elections to 21 civic bodies, including the AMC, are scheduled to be held on November 27.
State BJP president Abhishek Debroy said the list of candidates for municipalities and nagar panchayats will be announced shortly.
“After getting the green signal from Delhi, the party’s core committee finalised the candidates for the elections to the 21 civic bodies. Today, 45 candidates for the AMC have been cleared while names of the remaining six aspirants will be announced tomorrow,” he said.
Debroy told a press conference that the party decided to drop AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder from the candidate list for the civic elections as he is serving the people of the Ramnagar Assembly seat in West Tripura as the MLA.
“The BJP sticks to its core ideology – one leader, one post. An MLA has duties towards the people. The party will contest the elections highlighting the good work done by Majumder,” he said.
On the new faces, Debroy said the party has dropped some corporators on various grounds, including reservation and internal matters.
Asked about seat allocation for the BJP ally Tipra Motha Party, Debroy said three wards in various municipalities have been offered to it.
