New Delhi, Nov 3 A two-day seminar themed on cyber-enabled cognitive warfare was held here, during which experts deliberated on the convergence of cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence, information manipulation and psychological influence, and the challenges they pose to national security, officials said on Tuesday.
The event, organised by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), concluded on Tuesday.
IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit delivered a special address and emphasised the importance of synergised and coordinated functioning among all stakeholders to enhance operational efficacy and situational awareness.
“The second day of the seminar focused on evolving approaches to deterrence in the cyber-enabled cognitive domain, with particular emphasis on the credibility of response options training, simulation and capacity building, alongside digital governance, ethical considerations and legal frameworks for addressing emerging threats,” the defence ministry said.
The deliberations were held on the convergence of cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence (AI), information manipulation and psychological influence, and the challenges they pose to national security, it said in a statement.
Discussions also highlighted issues relating to attribution, strategic signalling, coordinated responses and the development of institutional capabilities to counter hostile activities in the cognitive domain, the ministry said.
The seminar underscored the need for a coordinated, multi-domain approach to national security, recognising that cyber-enabled cognitive threats extend beyond conventional technological vulnerabilities to influence perceptions, decision-making and institutional trust.
The deliberations aimed to strengthen joint and inter-agency understanding, foster collaboration among defence, government, scientific and academic communities, and contribute towards developing effective capabilities and response frameworks to address the evolving security environment, it said.
The seminar featured a special address by Gen Anil Chauhan (retd), former chief of Defence Staff.
The seminar brought together stakeholders from the defence forces, government, academia, technology and media to deliberate on emerging challenges in the cognitive domain and explore strategies to strengthen national preparedness through deterrence, inter-agency coordination and capacity building, it said.
